Independent Medical Education Grants

Sunovion is committed to supporting high-quality independent medical education programs in areas of strategic focus that serve to enhance treatment outcomes for patients by improving diagnosis and disease management.

Independent educational initiatives eligible for consideration must be designed to improve patient health outcomes by addressing unmet medical educational needs of health care professionals in areas consistent with Sunovion’s therapeutic areas of interest.

Independent medical education grants may be provided to organizations such as academic medical centers, medical education companies and medical specialty societies.

Educational activities may or may not be accredited. Responsibility and control over the selection, content, faculty, educational methods, materials, and venue is solely the responsibility of the organizers of the program. Sunovion will not provide any advice or guidance to the independent medical education provider regarding the content and selection of faculty for any program for which Sunovion provides funding.

Registration & Application

  • Grant requests must be submitted online through the Sunovion Requests System.
  • You must register as a user before submission of a grant request on behalf of the organization you represent. User registration is located at the Sunovion Request System. Please note that the accreditor must be the Requestor for all accredited programs. If Sunovion approves funding the grant, all third-party grantors involved in the program will be listed as a Joint Provider in the Sunovion grant agreement and will be a party to the grant agreement.
  • Applications must be submitted at least ninety (90) days before the start date of an activity. All applications must include a letter of request, current W9 and a program proposal (including a detailed program agenda, learning objectives, needs assessment and budget).
  • The Sunovion budget template, which is part of the application, must be completed in order to have the grant request considered. You may, however, use the form of budget used by the requesting organization for the attachment requirement. Once a request is submitted, you will receive a confirmation email.

Application Review

  • The Sunovion grant-review process requires a minimum of sixty (60) business days. If additional information is requested from the Grant Requestor the review process may be extended.
  • If an application is incomplete or funding type does not match the original request a Request for Information (RFI) will be sent to the Requestor.

All requests must fall within Sunovion’s areas of interest independent medical education grant requests.

Request Evaluation

  • Decisions on grant requests are determined after a full review and evaluation of the submission in accordance with Sunovion’s grants review process.
  • You will receive an email communication regarding the decision.
  • Questions regarding Sunovion's grant program should be sent to Sunovion's Grants Department at grants@sunovion.com.

Payment Process

  • If a funding request is approved, an electronic grant agreement with the terms and conditions of the funding will be sent to all relevant parties through the Sunovion Requests System.
  • The grant agreement must be electronically signed and accepted by the authorized signatory for the respective party.
  • After the acceptance of the grant agreement by all parties, the Grant Requestor must send an invoice to grants@sunovion.com for payment. Sunovion will provide the funds via check within forty-five (45) days after receipt of invoice.

Audit and Reconciliation

  • The grant reconciliation process is required to be completed within ninety (90) days of program completion.
  • The Sunovion Requests System will send a reminder email to the Grant Requestor when the system end date nears.
  • Post-program reconciliation consists of confirmatory evidence that program took place, final outcomes report, if applicable and a financial reconciliation.
  • All unused grant funds must be promptly returned to Sunovion.
  • Sunovion reports all payments or transfers of value made to Covered Recipients no later than thirty (30) days from the date of payment or transfer of value.*

* The Final Rule regarding transparency reporting was released by CMS on February 1, 2013, and requires applicable manufacturers (e.g., Sunovion) to collect and annually report payments and other transfers of value provided to U.S.-licensed practitioners (i.e., MDs/DOs, chiropractors, dentists, podiatrists and chiropractors) and certain Teaching Hospitals ("Covered Recipients"). Sunovion provides both direct and indirect transfers of value to Covered Recipients through medical education grants.
